Grandmothers are supposed to nurture their granddaughters, give them love, attention, devotion.

In Jenny Fogel-Miller’s case, her grandmother inspired a career and her own business.

The new member of the East Greenwich Chamber of Commerce is a native of East Greenwich and Warwick. She lives here with her husband Eric Miller and two daughters

Why has she devoted her career to helping our eldest population?

“My grandmother Lillian was my inspiration for working with seniors. Our relationship was so special that I wanted to make sure that I was able to carry her love and passion on with the work that I do,” said Miller. “She always believed that I would make a difference in the lives of others, and so far I have held that belief of hers to be true.

“I truly enjoy working with this population, because I am able to make a difference. Every client and every family that I work with has different needs, but at the end of the day the services that we are able to provide for seniors and their families reduce the stress and anxiety of the aging process, “she added.

After obtaining her master’s degree, Miller started out working for the Department of Elderly Affairs in Boston with the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Program. From there, she worked for nine years in assisted living communities. About five years ago, she opened Senior Care Concepts geriatric care management company.

“After working in assisted living communities, I felt that I wanted to be able to assist every senior, not just those that were looking into assisted living,” said Miller. “This is a great living option for some folks, but there are so many other living choices available. I wanted to work with seniors to offer them all sorts of options. Three months after I had my second daughter, I looked into the profession of geriatric care management, did the research and opened Senior Care Concepts.

“Being the owner and president, I am able to have a company where I can make a mission of caring for seniors and their families and serve as many people as possible. This cannot be done with a staff of one,” she said.

Senior Care Concepts is a geriatric care management company. There are only five private agencies/companies in Rhode Island that offer this service.

“We are very unique because we are working one on one with clients and their families, catering to their needs and providing a variety of options,” said Miller. “We focus on choice of services, planning ahead for the future and taking care of the needs one has today. Not one of our clients is alike, which is both exciting and sometimes challenging. Everyday is different!”

Miller said she joined the Chamber because of the close-knit community. “My parents and grandparents were members of the East Greenwich Chamber and our family has always had a strong presence in the town of east Greenwich,” she added. “While working at my father’s dry cleaners, this was my first opportunity to know what it was like to deal with the public and be a part of the caring and family-oriented community. Because of my connection to East Greenwich, I could not think of a better chamber to bring my business to.”
